About Us

Under the direction of the 2006 Provincial Wellness Plan, the Western Regional Wellness Coalition (WRWC) is committed to promoting wellness and improving the health and well-being of all individuals and communities in Western Newfoundland and Labrador.

The WRWC is focused on 8 Priority Areas of Wellness:

  1. Healthy Eating
  2. Physical Activity
  3. Tobacco Control
  4. Injury Prevention
  5. Mental Health Promotion
  6. Child and Youth Development
  7. Environmental Health
  8. Health Protection
  9.

Through education, information sharing, networking and delivering programs, the WRWC hopes to make these 8 areas of wellness a priority in your community!

WRWC History

In April 2003 the Heart Health Coalitions across the province were asked by the Department of Health and Community Services to promote other aspects of wellness in addition to healthy eating and physical activity. In response to this request, the Western Heart Health Coalition expanded its membership and mandate to become the Western Regional Wellness Coalition (WRWC).

WRWC Steering Committee

In September 2004, the WRWC established a steering committee with representatives from across the region representing at least one of the identified priority areas.

Our Mission

To actively promote and support wellness initiatives to all people in the Western Region of Newfoundland and Labrador using a population health approach.
